I have such mixed feelings about school starting. On one hand I'm excited for the adventure and learning that awaits my kiddos but since my youngest is starting kindergarten, I can't help but feel like the toddler years are gone and I am mourning their littleness. I had myself a good cry after we dropped him off.
Since school has started and it is My Favorite Things Thursday, I wanted to tell you about a sweet, wonderful book I read with MiniMe. I enjoyed this book so much that I looked forward to when it was time for us to get back to it! It has been awhile since I loved a book so much.
Kate DiCamillo is the author of The Tale of Despereaux, which I thought was an odd story so I was unsure I'd like The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. I'm so glad I gave it a try! This book was so beautifully written. I love the way the author strung her words together to create such a vivid description.
The pictures are also so sweet. The premise of the story is about a china rabbit given to ten-year old Abilene by her grandmother. "If you have no intention of loving or being loved, then the whole journey is pointless." This quote within the book best summarizes the theme.
Do you have a favorite childhood book? Let me know, I keep a list! I have another I'll post on a future favorite things. Speaking of, link up!!!!
I've never read this one - I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteThe first book I ever remember falling in love with is The Secret Garden.
great book!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a sweet book. I'll have to look for it. We like a lot of the old classics!
ReplyDeleteIt must be interesting...I always try to convince myself to read more and appreciate books. But once I get to starting, my eyes just feels heavy and I hate it. lol! I would love my daughter to be more interested on reading though...not like her mommy! Don't you just feel so proud that your little guy made it on his first day?! I'm sure he'll love school with all the kids to play with.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to ask earlier - how is your son, I saw in your email he was bullied!
