SHS Book Club: Blackberry Winter

I am trying to read at least two books a month if for no other reason than I keep adding books to my list and don't ever seem to get to them and the list just grows. If your life is like mine, you spend quite a bit of time waiting for your kids while they finish their various lessons or sports practices. I find myself also waiting at dentist and orthodontist appointments, haircuts, and parks. So, I've started bringing my iPad in my purse and read every opportunity I get.

The lastest book I read is called Blackberry Winter by Sarah Jio. I highly recommend this book. It was somewhat predicatable but sweet nonetheless. It takes place in Seattle and flashes back and forth between the story in 1933 and 2010. Without spoiling the story, a tragedy happens in 1933 that is only getting sorted out in 2010 and the link between the two dates is a freak snow storm that happened in both time periods. The term Blackberry Winter refers to a cold snap in the south and midwest America that happens in late spring when blackberries are in bloom.

This book is a really fast read and keeps you interested throughout. I've not read a Sara Jio book before. I would definitely try reading another book she's written. Blackberry Winter has received 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon. It does seem the only complaint is the predictability of the story, but as I said, I didn't mind that since the story itself was well-written and interesting.

Can't wait to share with you the book I'm currently reading! Have you read Blackberry Winter? If so, what did you think? Any recommendations you have I welcome. I'll just keep growing my list!

  1. Sarah Jio is one of my favorite authors! Once I start reading her books, I can never put them down. My favorite book of hers is The Bungalow. Have you read it? Thanks for stopping yesterday! :)
