Well Hello!

I have long ignored my blog. I don't know where time went! I'm going to try to be a more regular poster.

So much has happened since my last post. Some family birthdays have passed. A Christmas has gone by. MiniMe is mid-way through first grade. Where should I begin? How about a little craft love.

I finished this quilt as a Christmas gift for my in-laws. It has a lot of Joel Dewberry fabrics. After completing a hexagon quilt, this one seemed SO easy. I wish I had been more careful in taking pictures. We were trying to get the package to the post office so I took what pictures I could take quickly. I love the colors.

Joel Dewberry Quilt

I *heart* Joel Dewberry fabric!!! I have been wanting to start a new quilt and when I saw Joel's new line, I couldn't pass it up. Not every piece is JD fabric, but the majority is. Here is the pattern I'm going to use:

Quilting Along

S orry for my long absence. Life can sometimes get in the way of my creativity and blogging. I've missed it though and I've spent a great amount of time catching up on all your blogs.

I finally finished this quilt I started, oh well, a YEAR AND A HALF AGO! Like I said, life got in the way.

I love hexagons but they are really hard to quilt. I don't think I'll ever quilt a hexagon again. The design of this quilt is my own. When I started the quilt we were living in a different house and I finished it in another house. The final size of the quilt is much smaller than I'd initially intended but after working on these teeny little hexagons, I was ok with making the quilt a square.

Car Quilt

Still working on this quilt. Life is crazy busy. We had our house on the market and got an offer on the first week! I have a feeling I need to put this on the backburner for a bit with the move and all.

Little Car Quilt

I've FINALLY started cutting the fabric for MiniB's car quilt. I'm going for a hexagon star pattern. Let's hope that I can squeeze in some time to work on this project. Lately I've felt so busy and our house is going to go on the market so I'm going have to keep my house clean...GASP!

A New Start

Happy New Year! I can't believe it's twenty ten. Or is it more appropriate to say two thousand and ten?

I've had it on my list to post this fabric for a while now. It is for a quilt for my boy--some Japanese prints. I am deciding between two patterns. I can't wait to cut into this fabric but first we have been doing so many little house projects--trying to get our house ready to sell. More on that in future posts. I'm a bit tired of it all.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

I love Amy's idea for Blogger's Quilt Festival. I didn't participate in the spring but I am here now to showcase a quilt!

My quilt is made mostly from Snippets fabric by American Jane (Moda) and a couple of orange scraps I had on hand. I took a pattern from Quilts and More and reschemed it a bit because I wanted a 48" x 48" quilt instead of the larger quilt featured in the magazine.

I love the vibrant colors of the fabric. The red, blue, yellow, orange and greens all blend together beautifully with one another. Each center square either has a yellow, green, or orange square, creating a pattern amist all the chaos. And each square is either surrounded by all red fabric or all blue and then every other square is red, blue, red, blue, and so on. It all came together much lovelier than I hoped!

The finished quilt was long-arm-quilted with a flower pattern using green thread.

(Almost) Finished Snippets Quilt

I got the Snippets American Girl quilt back from the long-arm quilter! For background on this quilt, read here, here, here, and here. It's been a long time coming. This one took me four months. Whew! And by the time I get the binding on, it could be fall. Oh well. I still love seeing it almost completed!

Discount Fabric Find

I found this fabric on sale at Jo-Ann's. I thought it was fun and gender-neutral (for a blanket). Got any cute fat quarter baby quilt patterns?

Quilt Progress

I am loving my quilt but it continues to take me FOREVER to make much progress. Here is where I stand: I've got 5 columns left to sew together. Then I have the whole rest of the quilt--binding, backing, quilting! How long on average does it take you to finish a quilt? I'd say it takes me about 5 months. I would get it done so much faster if I didn't try to pursue other endeavors such as spending time on Spoonflower, making crochet motifs, and working on my Socks That Rock sock club socks.

Squares!

I am so in love with this fabric! See this post for fabric/quilt background. I'm sewing all the blue squares first. Then I'll sew the red squares and every square will alternate color.

New Quilting Project

I am so excited to show you the fabric I purchased for my new quilt! Isn't it gorgeous? It's the Snippets by American Jane for Moda collection purchased from my favorite online store--The Fat Quarter Shop. I love that place. Their customer service is awesome. I lay it all out and just stared at it when it came. B laughed at me while I stared in amazement at all the fabric goodness.

So, a couple posts back, I had told you I was going to participate in Elizabeth's Quilt A-long. But I do have a day job and she's already on the backing! I just don't work that quickly. I still plan to do the QAL, but I'll follow her directions at my own pace.

This fabric is for a quilt that I saw on the cover of Quilts and More--not the current issue but a back issue. I'm altering it up a bit though because I just want to make the quilt a 48" x 48" size. So, I reschemed it on paper.

Finished Project #2

I started posting about this baby here in September. Then notice how in this post in November, I write how my quilt is almost complete. This was true as all I had left was the binding. I had purchased the fabric in September, completed the quilting by Halloween and just had to bind it to have a wonderful Christmasy quilt for our family to snuggle under. Then Thanksgiving came and the entire season floored me. Once Christmas passed, I wasn't as excited to finish. But I was SO close. So, I sat myself down and hand stitched the binding. It wasn't hard and didn't take too long. I have decided that finishing is all mental. So, I present Finished Project #2:



Now I'm good to go for next year. Whew! Two FPs down, many more to go.

I am so excited about Oh Fransson's Quilt Along. Come and join! I expect we'll learn a lot since it is a sampler quilt. I need a new project like a hole in the head. I can't resist though. If you follow Oh Fransson, you know what I mean. Who'd miss out on the chance of such knowledge? I love Elizabeth's work! Yay!
